Troubleshooting: Flashing lights before brewing
Follow these troubleshooting steps if your Ratio has unusual flashing lights when brewing.
If all three lights flash slowly at the same time on your device after pressing the brew button, it is an indicator that there is not enough water in the tank or the jug is not in place.
To start the brewing cycle, add water for at least 2 cups (for Ratio Six), which means about 2 dl of water. For Ratio Eight devices manufactured after September 1, 2021, use at least 2.5 dl of water.
For Ratio Eight devices manufactured before September 1, 2021, use at least 3.5-4.5 dl.
1. test the water level
Place the jug in the brewer. Pour water into the tank. As soon as there is enough water, the flashing lights will go out and the Bloom light will come on and brewing will start. If you added water the night before brewing, the machine’s water level sensor may not register that water is present due to bubbles that may have formed on the side of the tank; stir the water if this is the case!
2. check the position of the jug
Once the coffee maker is prepped with water in the tank, press the button to start and gently move the jug around on the base. Once it is centered correctly, the other lights will go out and the Bloom will start to glow and brewing will start.
3. check the magnet
Each pot has a magnet in the center. If you are using a thermos jug and you have checked the steps above without brewing starting – then it is time to test the magnet.
To test the magnet, use a refrigerator magnet and run it along the bottom of the carafe; the magnet should register in the center of the base. If the machine does not register that the jug is centered in place, it may be the magnet that is the problem. With water in the tank, place a strong refrigerator magnet on the base of the unit and see if the brew cycle will begin. If it does, contact us to get a replacement jug.
If you have already checked the above, you may have an air bubble trapped in one of the water pipes.
If you have water in the tank, gently rock the unit back and forth or from side to side. You can then see an air bubble coming up from the waterline.
Another troubleshooting step would be to remove the water and then refill the tank.
Unplug your Ratio coffee maker and remove the lid from the top of the unit. Turn the unit away from you and lift it up over the sink and tip it forward to pour out the water.
Put it back on the bench, then fill the tank all the way up and press the button. The device should then start the brewing process.
We recommend that you fill your water container just before use. Allowing the water to sit in the container overnight can increase the likelihood of air bubbles forming.
Troubleshooting: Flashing lights after brewing
If the brewing cycle progresses directly to all three lights slowly flashing at the same time, this is an indication that the machine is overheating and you should contact us to resolve it.
Flickering light during brewing
In the middle of a brew cycle, any combination of lights flashing rapidly at the same time (e.g. all three, only Bloom and Ready, etc.) is an indication of an electrical problem. Contact us for help with servicing your Ratio machine.
The Bloom light flashes indefinitely
If the Bloom light flashes indefinitely, it is an indicator of an electrical problem due to use, wear or problems with the internal parts. One of the core electrical components may have been damaged. Please contact us for steps on how to proceed with a warranty service.
If in doubt, take a video capturing the behavior of your coffee maker and send it to info@ratiocoffee.se.
